Empowr
Risk Waiver
This Risk Waiver sets out the inherent risks of physical activity programmes run by Empowr CIC and the terms under which participants accept those risks.
Risk Waiver
Effective Date: 21 May 2026 | Last Updated: 21 May 2026 | Version: v1.0
Introduction
Empowr CIC organises and delivers physical activity programmes — including skateboarding sessions, coaching, camps, and events. Physical activities carry inherent risks of injury.
This Risk Waiver sets out those risks clearly and asks that all participants (or their parent or guardian if the participant is under 18) acknowledge and accept them as a condition of participation.
By booking a place on any Empowr CIC programme or attending any Empowr CIC session or event, you confirm that you have read, understood, and accepted the terms of this waiver.
1. About Us
Empowr CIC Community Interest Company registered in England and Wales Company Number: 13660924 Registered Office: Crown House, 27 Old Gloucester Street, London, WC1N 3AX Contact: enquiries@empowrcic.org
2. Acknowledgement of Risk
Physical activities — including but not limited to skateboarding, scootering, BMX, inline skating, and related disciplines — involve risks that cannot be entirely eliminated, even with experienced coaching and proper safety equipment.
By participating, you acknowledge that the participant:
- Understands that physical activity carries an inherent risk of injury, including minor injuries (cuts, bruises, sprains) and, in rare cases, more serious injuries
- Is physically capable of participating in the programme booked
- Has disclosed any health conditions, injuries, or limitations relevant to participation at the time of booking
- Will follow the instructions of coaches and session leaders at all times
- Will wear all required protective equipment throughout sessions (see Section 4)
3. Assumption of Risk
By participating in Empowr CIC programmes, you voluntarily assume all risks — known and unknown — associated with the activity, including risks arising from the actions of other participants, the condition of venues, and equipment used during sessions.
This assumption of risk does not affect your statutory rights or limit Empowr CIC's liability for negligence or breach of duty.
4. Protective Equipment
Appropriate protective equipment is mandatory at all Empowr CIC sessions unless a specific programme states otherwise.
Required equipment for all skating and board sport sessions:
- Helmet (correctly fitted, fastened at all times during activity)
- Knee pads
- Elbow pads
- Wrist guards
Participants who arrive without the required protective equipment may be refused participation in that session without refund. Empowr CIC may have limited equipment available to borrow — contact us in advance if you need support.
Borrowed equipment is provided as a courtesy. Participants use borrowed equipment at their own risk. We encourage all participants to invest in properly fitted personal equipment.
5. Medical Information and Fitness to Participate
By participating, you confirm that the participant:
- Does not have any medical condition, injury, or impairment that makes participation in the activity unsafe
- Has consulted a medical professional if there is any doubt about fitness to participate
If a participant's health status changes after booking, please notify us before the session so we can make appropriate arrangements or advise accordingly.
In the event of an emergency, our coaches and session leaders are trained in basic first aid and will act in the best interests of the participant. By accepting this waiver, you consent to basic first aid being administered if required.
6. Under-18 Participants
Where a participant is under 18, a parent or legal guardian must:
- Complete the booking on their behalf
- Accept this Risk Waiver on their behalf
- Ensure the participant understands the programme rules and the requirement to wear protective equipment
Empowr CIC follows safeguarding best practice and complies with relevant legislation and guidance relating to the welfare of children and young people. See our Terms & Conditions and Privacy Policy for further details.
7. Limitation of Liability
Empowr CIC takes all reasonable steps to provide a safe programme environment. We carry appropriate public liability insurance.
However, to the fullest extent permitted by law, Empowr CIC will not be liable for:
- Injury, loss, or damage arising from participation in our programmes where the participant or their guardian has been made aware of the relevant risks
- Loss or damage to personal property during sessions or events
- Injury resulting from a failure to wear required protective equipment or to follow the instructions of coaches and session leaders
Nothing in this waiver excludes or limits Empowr CIC's liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or for any other liability that cannot be excluded or limited by applicable law.
8. Changes to This Waiver
We may update this waiver from time to time. The current version is always available at legalhub.pecuvate.com. Your continued participation in our programmes following an update constitutes acceptance of the revised waiver.
